background & objectives

Problem

Finding the right price for a used car can be frustrating. Prices vary across platforms, market trends shift constantly, and outdated listings make it difficult to get accurate insights. Without a reliable source, buyers risk overpaying, while sellers struggle to set competitive prices.

Solution

Helping users find reliable used car prices through a smarter, summarized web platform.

  • Simplify used car price search

  • Present data visually (graphs)

  • One-click, no login, exportable

The Team

  • UI/UX Designer (2)

  • Product Owner

  • Front-end developer (1)

  • Back-end developer (1)

  • QA (2)

My Role in this project as UI/UX Designer & Graphic Designer

Define The Problem

Creating a seamless user experience starts with understanding the challenges of used car price seekers. Our design process focuses on clarity, usability, and data-driven insights, ensuring users can easily access and interpret market trends.

UX Research

To understand how users currently search for used car prices and identify key pain points & expectations, we do:

Field Interview

Internal Discussions

Who?

Visitors at JBA auctions & Caroline used car branches.

Business owner, developers, analyst.

Why?

To capture real user behavior when searching for car prices.

To understand business goals and technical constraints.

From Insights to Design

Insights were directly translated into features and flows.

Insight

Design Decision

Users unfamiliar with car types

Implement guided keyword search, not manual input

Need for instant results

Default homepage displays summarized price graphs + filters

Request to save data

Added Export as image feature, with no login required

Avoid looking like a freebie-only tool

Used professional design, data visualizations, and clean UI to build trust

Challenges Faced

  • Interviewees often struggled to explain their journey — I had to guide the conversation strategically.

  • No real local benchmarks — had to rely on primary user patterns and marketplace behavior.

  • Limited A/B test sample size — supplemented insights with internal discussions and past experience.

EXECUTION

Following the research phase, I moved into execution—translating insights into tangible design solutions. This stage showcases the evolution of Cartalog’s UI through visual comparisons, the refinement of empty states, key UI highlights, and the implementation of a structured design system.

UX Visual Comparison Across the Revamp Process

The evolution of Cartalog’s interface reflects a clear shift in visual direction while maintaining a consistent underlying UX structure. From the initial launch with blue-toned illustrations to a more neutral, minimal aesthetic, and finally to the current design featuring realistic automotive imagery, each stage demonstrates how the platform matured visually without altering its core user flow. I was directly involved in every phase of this transformation, creating the web banners for each version and ensuring the UI updates aligned with the brand’s identity while keeping the experience intuitive and familiar for users.

Now: realistic automotive visuals for stronger context → Brief phase: simplified neutral UI → First launch: blue-toned illustration with a clean, minimal look.

Empty State Prior to Revamp

A collection of custom empty state illustrations designed to simplify complex user flows and guide users seamlessly through the app experience.

Real-world application of the empty state designs, integrated into SPEED’s interface to provide clarity, reduce friction, and enhance visual consistency across the platform.

Tool used: Adobe Illustrator

UI Display Highlights

The following UI showcase highlights key screens from our revamped app interface, offering an immersive look into user interactions and design improvements.

Building Consistency at Scale with Design System

As the platform grew, I took the initiative to create and maintain a structured design system for Cartalog.id. I built a modular design system for Cartalog.id that included reusable UI components like filters, tables, and charts. It ensured visual consistency and helped the team iterate faster while simplifying dev handoff.

Tool used: Figma

Contributions Impact

Through thoughtful UX design and continuous iteration, I helped enhance Cartalog’s user experience. By refining the website’s navigation, improving accessibility across devices, and ensuring a seamless user journey, visitors were encouraged to explore more content and stay longer. A well-structured design not only improved usability but also strengthened trust, making the platform more intuitive and efficient.

In addition to my role in UX design, I also led Cartalog’s social media design independently. From crafting scroll-stopping visuals to driving measurable engagement growth, I transformed complex product messages into clear, compelling campaigns.
